GILLETTE, Wyo. — A fast-approaching spring storm is on track to hit Gillette by early Saturday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota. Projections from early Saturday morning indicate nearly all of Campbell County can expect anywhere from 4 to 12 inches of wet, heavy snow in total through Monday.
Areas north and south of Interstate 90 near Gillette could see the worst of the weather, with as much as 16 inches of snow estimated. Strong winds will also continue to blow into Sunday, with wind gusts peaking at 50 mph. The high winds will create significant blowing snow across northeastern Wyoming, impacting visibility on roads.
The National Weather Service in Rapid City cautions that travel conditions will be difficult this weekend, with sudden wind gusts posing particular risks to those towing trailers or driving high-profile vehicles.
Winds will push the storm though the region quickly, however, with temperatures back to the mid-40s by Tuesday.
