Mild weather today followed by Easter holiday snow chances

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Mild weather is expected in Campbell County today ahead of a cooling trend into the weekend that is likely to bring a spring snow shower or two.

The National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, has forecast a mostly sunny day today with a southwest wind at 10–15 mph increasing to 20–25 mph this afternoon. The high should be around 60 degrees, marking the warmest day of the forecast period until next Wednesday.

A fast-moving weather disturbance and cold front will cross the region tonight, bringing a 20% chance for light rain to Campbell County. The low will drop to around 30 under mostly cloudy skies. Windchills will be as low as 20. Winds from the southwest will blow at 17–21 mph with gusts reaching 32 mph.

Friday will be moderately warm as well with a high of 47. Partly sunny skies are expected for the Good Friday holiday. Winds will have died some to 9–16 mph. Snow chances begin in earnest Friday night as the low drops to 28. There’s a 30% chance for Gillette to see some snow flurries after midnight, according to the forecast.

Precipitation chances fluctuate throughout Saturday, starting at 40% in the morning and rising to 50% in the afternoon. The forecast high is 45, followed by a low of 28. As nightfall comes, Gillette will see a 40% chance for snow falling to 30% as the night wears on.

Sunday’s snow chances start at 30% and rise to 60% in the morning. The forecast high is 38. Snow remains likely into Sunday night as the low drops to 24 degrees.

This storm system will move quickly from the area, leaving only slight snow chances Monday as Gillette begins to warm again. Monday’s forecast high is 42, followed by 54 on Tuesday and 63 on Wednesday.
