GILLETTE, Wyo. — A man was arrested early Sunday morning for allegedly shooting a stolen gun between two women’s feet following a crash near Triton Avenue, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said.

Stetson Niehoff, 21, was charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault and possession of stolen property on March 24 after an argument ended in him firing a stolen .45 caliber handgun at the ground on Triton Avenue, Wasson said.

Niehoff reportedly drove with a 21-year-old woman to pick up a 45-year-old woman from a bar shortly before 1:30 a.m. After retrieving her, Niehoff drove erratically, ultimately crashing on Triton Avenue, where he parked the vehicle, per Wasson.

An argument ensued between the three of them, during which Niehoff pulled a firearm and fired at the ground between the two women’s feet, Wasson said.

Niehoff denied possessing or firing a firearm when officers arrived. However, they located a .45 caliber bullet near his vehicle and found a matching firearm containing a spent casing inside a residence, per Wasson.

A check revealed the firearm was reported stolen and Niehoff was taken into custody. As of March 25, the investigation is ongoing, Wasson said.
