GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes that occurred in and around Gillette yesterday, Feb. 26, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Burglary, Feb. 26, Swanson Road, CCSO
Officers responded to Swanson Road at 8:15 a.m. after a machinery company called to report a burglary, Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. Sometime between Feb. 24 ad Feb. 25, an unknown person gained access to a vehicle-mounted tool box by damaging a perimeter fence. The burglary was discovered after workers found tools strewn on the ground. At the time of the report, workers planned to conduct an inventory to determine if anything was missing; the fence damage was estimated at $100.
Fraud, Feb. 26, South Douglas Highway, CCSO
A 25-year-old woman called the sheriff’s office at 4:39 p.m. to report being targeted by fraud, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The woman said she observed $5,000 in unauthorized charges on her First Interstate debit card. The charges were made through the Square payment app, and she intends to review her records. The investigation is ongoing.
DWUI, Feb. 26, North Gurley Avenue, GPD
Officers responded to the area of North Gurley Avenue and Warlow Drive at 4:40 p.m. to investigate a report regarding a man sleeping at the wheel while parked at a traffic light, Wasson said. The man was in a 2007 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle that drove away northbound before officers arrived. Officers located the vehicle at a mobile home park on North Gurley Avenue and found a 56-year-old man inhaling propane from a canister. The man attempted to flee but officers managed to remove the keys from the vehicle, at which point the man admitted to inhaling propane. Two cylinders of propane were collected from the vehicle and the man was taken into custody after refusing field sobriety tests. He was charged with DWUI, driving under suspension and failing to maintain a single lane of travel.
Battery, Feb. 26, Maple Avenue, GPD
A 77-year-old woman was cited for battery and her 50-year-old son was cited for breach of peace following a physical altercation on Maple Avenue around 5:22 p.m., Wasson said. The 77-year-old woman claimed her son was refusing to leave the residence where they both lived. She hit him with a stainless steel sauce pan on the arm after he yelled at her, resulting in a minor injury. He reportedly broke a lamp which hit him on the head. The woman ultimately left the residence.
Theft, Feb. 26, South Garner Lake Road, GPD
Officers responded to a fueling station on South Garner Lake Road around 6:27 p.m. after a 24-year-old man called to report $400 was missing from his wallet, Wasson said. The man reportedly left his wallet at a pump, and it was turned over to staff members around 1 a.m. that day. The investigation is ongoing.
