C17 Crime Clips for Monday, Feb. 26

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes that occurred in and around Gillette this past weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Crash, Feb. 23, Miller Avenue, GPD

A 28-year-old man sustained minor injuries after he failed to stop at an intersection while riding an electric longboard and crashed into a police vehicle around 1:05 p.m., Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The man was eastbound on 5th Street when he ran a stop sign at the intersection with Miller Avenue. He collided with the hood of the police vehicle and caused damage to the windshield. The damage to the police vehicle was estimated to be over $4,000, and the 19-year-old man was cited for the stop sign violation.

Unauthorized use, Feb. 23, Lunar Avenue, GPD

Officers responded to Lunar Avenue around 2:13 p.m. after a 36-year-old woman called to report her 18-year-old son took her vehicle without permission, Wasson said. The woman believed her son was on his way to pick up his girlfriend in Newcastle using her 2013 Chevrolet. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle, and the investigation is underway.

Crash, Feb. 23, Highway 59, CCSO and Wyoming Highway Patrol

Deputies responded to the Highway 59 and Highway 387 Junction in Wright on Friday around 7:37 p.m. for a pickup vs. semi-tractor crash report, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The vehicles collided when the pickup pulled out in front of the semi while leaving a nearby travel plaza. The pickup collided with the semi’s wheels, causing the smaller vehicle to spin, eject its driver and catch fire. The crash was investigated by the Wyoming Highway Patrol and additional information was not immediately available.

Crash, Feb. 24, Southern Drive, GPD

A 45-year-old woman was transported to the hospital after her 2007 Pontiac was crashed into by a 66-year-old woman in a 2011 Toyota at the intersection of Southern Drive and Highway 59 around 12:21 p.m., Wasson said. The 66-year-old woman was westbound when she entered the intersection and crossed the 45-year-old woman’s path. The older woman was not injured and was cited for failing to yield.

Theft, Feb. 25, Butler Spaeth Road, GPD

Officers responded to St. Matthews Catholic Church around 3:22 after a 47-year-old woman called to report a theft, Wasson said. The woman reportedly saw surveillance footage of a 55-year-old man stealing $300 from a safe. The man was contacted and was cited for theft after admitting he took the money.
