GILLETTE, Wyo. — Local nursing instructor Gwen Reed has been appointed vice president of the Wyoming State Board of Nursing, according to the Gillette Community College District.
Formerly serving on the board as an educational representative, Reed looks forward to her new role knowing that her decisions moving forward can impact every nurse in Wyoming and help protect the public, Gillette College said in a Feb. 21 release.
While the Wyoming State Board of Nursing has many duties, Reed and Gillette College will focus on the board’s oversight of curricula — including approving the hiring of new nursing faculty and approving course syllabi at every institution in the state.
Additionally, Reed’s new role places her in a position to gain critical insight into the college’s accreditation process, including its nursing program, which must seek its accreditation through the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing apart from the college’s efforts, the release states.
Serving as the board vice president could help the nursing program progress through the accreditation steps in a timely manner, according to the release.
Lindsay Wakefield, dean of nursing and health sciences for Gillette College, said Reed is a natural educator and a true public servant.
“Her involvement in not only the board but in other groups in the nursing community is a testament to her commitment to [keeping] those in the medical career in Wyoming meeting top standards,” she said in a statement.
