CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Gov. Mark Gordon and the Wyoming State Museum celebrated local creativity at the Governor’s Capitol Arts Exhibition Reception on Feb. 16, honoring Wyoming artists with prestigious awards and purchase awards for their outstanding works.
Denise Hawkins of Cheyenne captured the Governor’s Choice Award with her piece “Sunset Calm.”
Alistair Dunnington of Laramie and Richard Burke of Douglas were each bestowed with the Juror’s Choice Award for their pieces, “Untitled” and “Numinous,” respectively.
The event also marked the selection of eight artworks for the Capitol Art Collection Purchase Awards, which are determined through votes from state agencies and officials. These pieces are set to adorn the public offices, contributing to the cultural ambiance of state buildings.

- Liz Baldwin of Laramie for the piece “Solid Air”
The exhibition, featuring these and other remarkable pieces, will be accessible to the public at the Wyoming State Capitol until Aug. 10 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Additionally, art enthusiasts can view and purchase works from the show online.
This year’s exhibition not only recognizes individual artists but also underscores the vibrant art community in Wyoming, enriching the state’s cultural landscape and providing a platform for local talent to be celebrated and appreciated.
