LARAMIE, Wyo. — Three people, including an infant, died Saturday and more were hospitalized in a three-vehicle wreck that occurred when a driver tried to pass the car in front of them and drove into oncoming traffic.
According to reports from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, a Jeep was headed west along Highway 130 near mile marker 8.5 when the driver attempted to pass the vehicle in front. However, when the Jeep switched lanes to pass, they drove directly into the path of an oncoming Chevrolet pickup truck carrying a horse trailer.
Without enough time for the Chevrolet to brake, the two drivers crashed head-on and both vehicles left the roadway. The horse trailer detached from the pickup truck and slid across the road, striking the vehicle that had been behind the Jeep.
Killed in the wreck were Joshua Madaris, Haylee Reney and an unnamed juvenile. According to the WHP report, the juvenile was under a year old. Three more people were injured in the crash, while one person came away from the incident uninjured.
