GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes that occurred in and around Gillette yesterday, Feb. 15, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Crash, Feb. 15, Foothills Boulevard, GPD
Officers responded to the intersection of Foothills Boulevard and Highway 14-16 at 8:14 a.m. for a two-vehicle collision, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. A 43-year-old man operating a 1981 Chevrolet slid through the intersection on a red light and collided with a 67-year-old man in a 2007 Chevrolet, resulting in over $1,000 in damage. The crash was determined to be weather-related, and no citations were issued.
Burglary, Feb. 15, Swanson Road, GPD
Staff at an industrial business on Swanson Road called the police at 12:57 p.m. after finding property disturbed and a perimeter fence cut, Wasson said. Someone reportedly cut the fence surrounding a storage location and disturbed spools of welding wire, though nothing appeared to be missing. The investigation is ongoing.
Intoxication, Feb. 15, North Brooks Avenue, GPD
Officers responded to North Brooks Avenue at 2:47 p.m. after a 29-year-old woman called to report an intoxicated 38-year-old man, Wasson said. The woman said the man had consumed a significant amount of alcohol over a two-week period and she was no longer able to care for him. Officers spoke with the man and found him to be highly intoxicated. He had not eaten anything in a significant amount of time and was taken into custody for intoxication.
DWUI, Feb. 15, South Douglas Highway, GPD
An 18-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving after officers stopped him for operating a 2008 Buick without headlights on South Douglas Highway around 9:33 p.m., Wasson said. The man smelled of alcohol when officers contacted him and was taken into custody after partially completing field sobriety tests. Two passengers, an 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, were both cited for not wearing seatbelts and possessing vaping devices while under 21.
Intoxication, Feb. 15, East Boxelder Road, GPD
Officers arrested a 44-year-old man for intoxication after he used loud and profane language at a hotel on East Boxelder Road around 11:22 p.m., Wasson said. The man was the subject of a welfare check requested by his 19-year-old daughter and he had refused to cooperate with officers during a previous contact, where they refused a stand-by request due to his level of intoxication. Officers returned to the hotel after the man requested a welfare check for his daughter, whom he felt was being influenced by her boyfriend. The man was still intoxicated and was taken into custody.
Battery, Feb. 16, South Emerson Avenue, GPD
A 54-year-old woman was arrested for battery after she threw a cup of liquid and nearly struck officers with it while they were responding to a battery call at a hotel on South Emerson Avenue around 2:06 a.m., Wasson said. Officers were called to the hotel by a 53-year-old man who said the woman assaulted a 52-year-old man. The younger man declined to cooperate with the investigation; however, the woman threw a cup of liquid at a door and splashed some on an officer, resulting in her arrest.
DWUI, Feb. 16, East Boxelder Road, GPD
Officers arrested a 17-year-old girl for impaired driving after she was identified as the hit and run suspect for two incidents — one on Warlow Drive and another on South Douglas Highway — around 3:48 a.m., Wasson said. The girl reportedly caused damage to a fence at Bicentennial Park and a guardrail at the Interstate 90 overpass on South Douglas Highway. Officers located the girl in a 2001 Ford at a truck stop and stopped it at South Emerson Avenue and Boxelder Road. The rear passenger door was dragging on the ground and a wheel was bent. The girl displayed signs of intoxication and was arrested for youthful offender DWUI. A 17-year-old passenger was also cited for consuming alcohol while under 21, and officers notified both girls’ parents.
