GILLETTE, Wyo. — A local running organization will join an out-of-state effort to honor fallen Sheridan Police Sgt. Nevada Krinkee, and is asking the community to run alongside its members this Saturday.

According to Ashley Hicks, secretary for Razor City Runners, her organization will host a run/walk event on Feb. 17 starting at 11:30 a.m. in honor of Krinkee, who was shot and killed in Sheridan on Feb. 13.

Hicks says the event is free and open to the public. The route spans 1.5 miles, beginning and ending at Lasting Legacy Park, with the midpoint being the Gillette Police Department. The run is inspired by a similar event taking place the same day in Florida where Running 4 Heroes Inc. founder Zechariah Cartledge intends to honor Krinkee with a one-mile run.

Krinkee, a six-and-a-half-year veteran of the Sheridan Police Department, was shot and killed while attempting to serve a trespassing notice on Feb. 13. His death sparked a multi-day standoff between a barricaded and armed suspect and local, county, state and federal law enforcement officials.

The suspect was shot and killed by law enforcement officers on Feb. 14 after he attempted to flee the scene, according to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.

According to a fallen officer memorial page, Krinkee was the first Sheridan police officer and the 62nd Wyoming law enforcement officer to die in the line of duty. He is survived by his wife and infant daughter.
