C17 Crime Clips for Wednesday, Feb. 14

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes that occurred in and around Gillette yesterday, Feb. 13, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Runaway, Feb. 13, Desert Hills Circle, GPD

A 16-year-old boy has not been seen since he was dropped off at Campbell County High School on Feb. 12 and is currently listed as a runaway juvenile, Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The boy was reported missing by a 35-year-old woman on Desert Hills Circle around 8:03 a.m. and is believed to still be in the Gillette area.

Battery, Feb. 13, East 7th Street, GPD

Officers responded to Twin Spruce Junior High School at 8:17 a.m. to investigate a reported battery that occurred two days ago, Wasson said. A 13-year-old boy was cited for battery after he allegedly hit a 14-year-old boy in the head three times on Feb. 12 around 2:50 p.m.

Breach of peace, Feb. 13, West Lakeway Road, GPD

A 14-year-old girl will be cited for breach of peace after she was removed from class for disruptive behavior at Sage Valley Junior High School, Wasson said. The girl reportedly used profane language and was removed from class by a principal on Feb. 9. A meeting has been scheduled between the girl, her parents and the police.

Property destruction, Feb. 13, Saunders Boulevard, GPD

Officers responded to Thunder Basin High School around 1:22 p.m. after school staff located a backpack containing two paint pens and believed its owner was responsible for recent vandalism incidents, Wasson said. A 15-year-old student ultimately admitted to vandalizing school restrooms on Feb. 6 and Feb. 12. She was cited for property destruction.

Drugs, Feb. 13, Rampart Drive, CCSO

Deputies responded to a restaurant on Rampart Drive in Wright around 2:45 p.m. for a man passed out at a table, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. When deputies woke him, the man was hard to understand and displayed signs of impairment. He did not smell of alcohol and was transported to the hospital for evaluation. Upon his release, the man was taken into custody for using a controlled substance.

Suspicious activity, Feb. 14, Elon Avenue, GPD

Officers responded to the area of Elon Avenue and Church Avenue at 12:43 a.m. to investigate two reported gunshots, Wasson said. They located a 9mm casing in an alleyway between the two streets and witnesses reported seeing two individuals fleeing the area in a vehicle after the shots were fired. Later, a 19-year-old woman was contacted at the Emergency Department at Campbell County Health. She claimed to have lost consciousness on Church Avenue after being physically assaulted. She had injuries to her head and mouth. There is a possible connection to the shooting incident, though both cases remain under investigation.
