CASPER, Wyo. — A six-year veteran of the Sheridan Police Department was shot and killed in the line of duty Tuesday, the department announced in a media release.
Sgt. Nevada Krinkee was shot while attempting to serve a trespass warning on a male subject near the intersection of 5th Street and Val Vista Street in Sheridan. Krinkee was transported to Sheridan Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries, the release said.
The male subject fled the scene and was located a short time later in the area of 6th and N. Sheridan Avenue. Law enforcement determined he was barricaded inside a residence and established a perimeter. Residents in the area were evacuated.
A Gillette Police Department tactical team, including crisis negotiators, responded “and a stand-off ensued. The scene is still active at this time,” the release said at 3:06 p.m.
“The entire department is shocked and saddened by this senseless act and appreciate all the thoughts and prayers from our community,” Sheridan police said. “Please respect the privacy of our brother Nevada’s family through this trying time.”
The Sheridan Police Department, Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, Gillette Police Department, and the Wyoming Highway Patrol responded to the incident.
The investigation is now being turned over to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, Sheridan PD said.
“Additional information regarding this tragic event will be available through the DCI Public Information Officer.”
