Warm start to week full of snow chances in Gillette

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Snow chances have returned to Gillette’s forecast with a vengeance, albeit reaching no higher than 50%.

The National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, said above-average temperatures will persist through midweek with occasional chances of light snow or rain, and cooler temperatures and better snow chances are expected Wednesday through Friday.

Snow flurries could begin as early as today despite a high near 43. There is a 20% chance of snow showers after 2 p.m. Skies will be mostly cloudy. There will be a west wind at 5–10 mph with gusts of up to 15 mph possible.

Snow chances tonight rise to 30%, mainly before 11 p.m. Skies will continue to be mostly cloudy as the low falls to around 23. With a sustained west wind at 5–10 mph, windchills will be as low as 16.

The sun will come out Tuesday and bring the high to around 41, but snow chances return at 50% Tuesday night, mainly after 11 p.m., according to the forecast. The sky will be mostly cloudy as the low falls to around 20.

Wednesday will kick off with a 50% chance for snow mainly before 11 a.m. Skies will otherwise be mostly cloudy, and the high will max out around 30. There will be a north wind at 10–15 mph with gusts as high as 20 mph. During the day, snow chances will slide down to about 20%. They will rise to 40% for Wednesday night, and the low will be near 15.

Thursday will see the return of a 50% chance for snow. The high is expected to max out around 28 degrees. Overnight, snow chances continue as the low falls to around 9.

Friday will continue the cold trend with a slight chance for snow before 11 a.m. Skies are expected to be mostly sunny as the high returns to about 26. Friday night skies will be mostly clear and the low will be near 8, according to the forecast.
