GILLETTE, Wyo. — A property transaction agreement between the City of Gillette and the Gillette Community College District advanced Tuesday following a decision by the Gillette City Council.
During its meeting on Feb. 6, the council approved a purchase agreement for selling several city-owned lots to the GCCD for $2.4 million, clearing the way for the GCCD Board of Trustees to approve the agreement in its own right by March 1.
The agreement is the formalization of a memorandum of understanding between the two entities approved in May 2023 in response to the current and future needs of the college to construct facilities and continue to develop the campus.
Per the MOU, construction will improve the ability of the college to provide services to its students while continuing to deliver and support higher education services in Campbell County in the future.
According to City Attorney Sean Brown, the formal agreement contains all of the essential items of the MOU. He expects, depending on whether the GCCD approves it, that closing will occur by the end of the calendar year.
