CASPER, Wyo. — Cheyenne’s Adelaide Bomberger, 17, recently had one of her two wishes come true.

One of the wishes, running a marathon, will have to wait until later. In the meantime, she can proudly say she had an arm wrestling match with her hero — Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Doctors found a brain tumor in Adelaide when she was 15 years old, after she began experiencing severe headaches, vomiting and a seizure that left her visually impaired. After doctors at Children’s Hospital in Colorado discovered a rare sarcoma in the brain, she immediately began aggressive treatment, including a year’s worth of radiation and chemotherapy, only to have the tumor reappear just six months later.

She’s again undergoing chemotherapy, but Make-A-Wish Wyoming wanted to make sure she had her chance to meet up with The Rock.

It happened in December last year, when she and her family were flown to Los Angeles to spend a few hours with her hero, who accompanied her on a behind-the-scenes tour of Universal Studios and a lunch buffet with her family.

“He’s so strong, so I of course had to prove my strength. It wasn’t just about the arm wrestle though; The Rock was also so involved in my wish,” said Adelaide in a Make-A-Wish story posted on their website. “He even sent us his famous French Toast on the first morning of our trip and one more time when we got back home to Cheyenne.”

According to Make-A-Wish, the trip with her mom, uncle and cousin included cruising Sunset Boulevard, walking along the Santa Monica Pier and eating “some of the best spaghetti they’ve ever had.”

Adelaide’s wish came true months after talking with Cap City/Oil City News’s Stephanie Lam about her battle with cancer. The East High student plans to graduate with her class, and doesn’t intend to let cancer dictate her entire life.

“I feel like it’s misrepresented in media,” she said. “They paint out cancer to be a diagnosis [that’s] basically a death sentence, but it’s kind of not.”
