GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Campbell County Board of Commissioners has its fifth member, having selected Bob Jordan to fill a vacant commission seat during a special meeting on Wednesday.
The decision came after a 90-minute special meeting on Jan. 24 at the Campbell County Courthouse where Jordan — along with Traci Barkey and Jerry Means — was interviewed by the commissioners. He was selected to fill the seat following a majority vote, receiving support from Chairman Del Shelstad and Commissioners Butch Knutson and Kelly McCreery.
Commissioner Jim Ford cast his vote for Traci Barkey, saying he felt it was a true representation of what the Campbell County Republican Party desired, with Barkey receiving more votes than any other applicant.
Shelstad cast the deciding vote in favor of Jordan, stating he was doing so because he felt his job as chairman was to facilitate the will of the board, which had cast two votes in favor of Jordan compared to the single vote cast for Barkey when it came time for him to vote.
Jordan, Means and Barkey were the individuals selected by the Campbell County GOP earlier this week, which by law was tasked with selecting three suitable candidates to fill a vacancy on the board following Colleen Faber’s resignation in January.
A retiree with experience with Black Hills Energy and construction, Jordan has served on several boards including the Campbell County Conservation District and the Planning Board.
“I wish to serve my county [and] be part of the solution rather than part of the problem,” Jordan wrote in his application. “Campbell County has provided tremendous opportunities — personally as well as professionally — throughout my life, for myself as well as my family. I wish to give back, and contribute to [the future] of our county.”
Check back with County 17 tomorrow for additional coverage of the Jan. 24 special meeting.
Correction (Jan. 25, 2024): A previous version of this story incorrectly tallied the voting record regarding Bob Jordan’s appointment to the Campbell County Commissioners. He received support from Commissioners Butch Knutson and Kelly McCreery in addition to Chairman Shelstad.
