CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Cheyenne-Laramie County Public Health issued a statement to residents Tuesday concerning the Quaker Oats Company’s recent recall of granola and cereal products.

On Friday, the Quaker Oats Company recalled dozens of its products nationwide due to potential salmonella contamination, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Forty-three products have been recalled in total. These products include various Chewy Bars, Dipps, Puffed cereals, Frito-Lay and other snacks. Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause serious illness to infected individuals. Children, elderly people and individuals with compromised immune systems are more at risk of getting seriously sick from infection, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Salmonella infections have been making headlines in the media since November, when various cantaloupe products were found to have contributed to bacterial infections, and even deaths, in consumers across the country. Cheyenne-Laramie County Public Health stated on Dec. 12 that someone in Wyoming became infected with salmonella in connection to infected cantaloupe.
