GILLETTE, Wyo. — Gillette is under a winter weather advisory as a late-November snowstorm gets underway.
The storm is part of a system bringing upwards of a foot to parts of Wyoming. For Gillette, the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, has forecast a daytime snow accumulation of up to 2 inches. While snow was mainly expected after 11 a.m., the Wyoming Department of Transportation is reporting roads in the area are slick with snowfall.
Today’s forecast high is 28, although that should drop to around 21 by 5 p.m. Expect windchills as low as 8 as winds come from the northeast at 13–15 mph and gusts reach 21 mph. Tonight’s low will be around 15. Skies will be cloudy and windchills will drop to as low as 5.
Up to an additional 3 inches of snow is possible in Gillette. The chance of precipitation throughout the day is 60%.
The City of Gillette has declared a Level 1 Snow Emergency in response to the snowstorm. The city’s declaration went into effect at 2:30 p.m. and requires all vehicles to be removed from designated snow removal routes no later than 6:30 p.m. Nov. 22, per the city, which says any vehicle not removed may be towed at the owner’s expense.
Snow should taper off Friday, as chances fall from 50% to 20% throughout the day. The forecast high is 21. Windchills will again dip as low as 6 as winds come from the southeast at 10 mph and gusts reach 17 mph. Friday night will be bone-chillingly cold with a low of 8 and a windchill value as low as minus 1. Skies will be mostly cloudy.
A gradual warming trend will be set in place starting this weekend. The forecast calls for a high of 24 on Saturday. Skies will begin mostly cloudy and gradually become sunny. Overnight, the temperature will drop to around 18. Skies will remain partly cloudy.
Sunday should see a high of 29 under mostly sunny skies, while Monday will see a high near 32. Tuesday will continue the mostly sunny trend with a high near 37.
