Dorris E. Welch

Dorris E. Welch: 1934 – 2023

Dorris Eilein Welch, 89, of Gillette, Wyoming passed away on November 19, 2023.

She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a friend to many.

She was born on July 27, 1934 to Michel and Thelma Friese near Brownstown, Illinois on the family farm.

She graduated from high school in Brownstown. She married John Welch on December 24, 1953 in Herrick, Illinois. They moved to Colorado where he worked in the oil field and later to Wyoming where they lived in many cities. They stayed in Casper in 1965.

She cleaned houses, sold Avon, was a girl scout leader, and worked for Prairie Publishing binding books. She was active in her son’s boy scouts and worked for Natrona County School District in the cafeteria. She later transferred to the print shop with the school district and retired from there.

After retirement she traveled with friends across the country, spent time with the children and grandchildren, loved to paint and decorate cakes- and never met a stranger. She was an active member of the Church of Christ. She enjoyed meeting people, youth activities and had a special talent of making sure the elderly members were always cared for. She took many people under her motherly wings and loved them like they were her own.

She is survived by her four children: Linda (Josh) Richardson, Gerald Welch, Brad (Karen) Welch, Gloria (David) Bicknese; five grandchildren: Nicole Wofford, Lindsey (Adam) Decker, Megan (Drew) Konetzki, Sarah (Michael) Webb, and Aaron (Taylor) Bicknese; and nine great-grandchildren: Sheridan, Houston, Alexis, Clayton, Cameron, Avery, Emerson, Reese, and Peyton. She is predeceased by her parents; her sister, Catherine; and her husband, John.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Campbell County Health Home Hospice.
