GILLETTE, Wyo. — After experiencing a fire Nov. 17, the Perkins Restaurant and Bakery in Gillette will not open until at least Nov. 26, a staff member said this afternoon.
Assistant general manager Colette Komara said the restaurant, which is at 2510 S. Douglas Highway, is waiting for specialty parts for the hood system.
“We will not reopen until at least next week, and we are unsure if it will even be that soon,” she said. “We look forward to serving the great community of Gillette upon reopening. That is all the comment we have at this time.”
Brianne Barbakoff, the vice president of account services at Ink Link Marketing and a spokesperson for Perkins, said Nov. 17 that the fire was contained to the hood system in the restaurant’s kitchen and that nobody was reported injured.
The fire department’s Nov. 18 report stated that the department responded at 3:36 p.m. Nov. 17 to Perkins for a structure fire and firefighters found a fire burning in the kitchen and through the restaurant’s roof. Firefighters got the fire under control by 4:03 p.m. Thirteen firefighters and two chiefs responded.
“Firefighters contained the accidental fire to the kitchen and roof area,” the department said. “No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.”
Campbell County Fire Department’s report said it was assisted on scene by Campbell County Health EMS, the Gillette Police Department, City of Gillette Electrical Services and Black Hills Energy.
City of Gillette spokesperson Jennifer Toscana said Nov. 17 it was her understanding that Gillette police responded to the incident to help with traffic control. Media rounds with the police this morning did not yield more information regarding that response.
Barbakoff has not provided County 17 with any other information since Nov. 17.
A Black Hills Energy spokesperson Nov. 17 directed County 17 to get information from the fire department.
