GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes that occurred in and around Gillette since Nov. 16, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Theft, Nov. 17, Highway 59, CCSO
Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said that at about 11:12 a.m., a deputy cited a 56-year-old man for theft after the man was caught on camera stealing about $80 from the register and a shake-a-day jar at Hanks Bar and Grill in Wright. The man has been trespassed from Hank’s Bar and Grill and gas station lounge.
DWUI, Nov. 19, Interstate 90, CCSO
Reynolds said that at 4:59 a.m., a 47-year-old man reported he saw a man passed out in a red car on the westbound offramp west of mile marker 132 on Interstate 90. Deputies found, contacted and woke the described man, who was parked in a 2021 Volkswagen Jetta with Wyoming plates. They could smell the odor of alcohol. Deputies asked the man, 24, to perform standardized field sobriety tests. Due to his poor test performance, he was arrested. At the detention center, he took a blood alcohol breath test, which measured .105 BAC. He was charged with DUI, to be released on zeroes.
Threats, Nov. 19, Gillette, CCSO
According to Reynolds, a 40-year-old woman reported at 9:01 p.m. that her son, 15, was being harassed by an 18-year-old man. The man sent the 15-year-old a Snapchat message saying, “I found your [vulgarity].” As of the time of the report, deputies had not yet contacted the man.
Narcotics, Nov. 18, Rodgers Drive, GPD
Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said that at 8:27 a.m. Nov. 18, a 43-year-old man reported to police, screaming for help, that someone was trying to kill him. Officers found the man lying on the parking lot of Budget Inn Express, striking the ground with his hands. He displayed symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was taken to the hospital, where medical professionals found that he had a broken foot. The man said the injury was a result of him kicking a chair. The man was arrested for use of a controlled substance.
Fraud, Nov. 18, Douglas Highway, GPD
Wasson said a 35-year-old man at Flying J reported at 9:20 a.m. that an employee, a 56-year-old man, may have been scammed. The 56-year-old man had prepaid $420 for tire service without verifying whom he was speaking with on a phone call and had later received an invoice for $530. Police are investigating.
Breach of peace, Nov. 18, Dove Road, GPD
According to Wasson, a 24-year-old woman reported at 9:20 a.m. that a man in a black Mazda was belligerent and using profanities toward staff at the Sinclair on Dove Road. Sheriff’s deputies found the man, 41, in Sleepy Hollow, and the man said he was upset with staff. The man was cited for breach of peace. Sinclair staff asked that he be trespassed from all Sinclair gas stations in Gillette.
Theft, Nov. 18, Sako Drive, GPD
Wasson said that police received a report at 7:53 p.m. that a portable generator was taken on Nov. 16 from a residence on Sako Drive. The generator was valued at $900. The investigation is ongoing.
