GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Campbell County Public Library is welcoming poetry lovers to a free workshop.
Readers and writers of poetry will be led by local poet and educator Doug Dumbrill on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 5:30 p.m. at the library, 2101 S. 4-J Road.
Based on David Hinton’s book “Awakened Cosmos: The Mind of Classical Chinese Poetry,” this free seminar and practice will explore the world of poetic inspiration and translation, a social media post states. It is intended for poets and poetry readers of every level and experience.
Dumbrill will use the classic texts and Hinton’s literal translations of the Chinese works to guide each participant to their own unique “translation” of a classic poem. Along the way the group will explore the thesis that “a poem’s true meaning lies between the translations.”
