Brianne Barbakoff, the vice president of account services at Ink Link Marketing and a spokesperson for Perkins, said at 5:35 p.m. that the fire was contained to the hood system in the restaurant’s kitchen and that nobody was reported injured. The restaurant is temporarily closed. Staff will know more information tomorrow, when the fire department can assess the damage.

Rigsby said the fire department got paged at about 3:36 p.m. Nov. 17 for a structure fire at Perkins. Smoke was coming from the roof when firefighters arrived at the restaurant, located at 2510 S. Douglas Highway, Gillette. They were able to get the fire under control. He believes the restaurant was open at the time of the report, but he does not know if anyone was inside at the time.

He said at 4:23 p.m. that he anticipated the department would be leaving the scene within an hour. Electrical staff from the City of Gillette, Black Hills Energy and Gillette police also responded. The department will investigate what caused the fire and anticipates sharing more information in a news release the morning of Nov. 18.
