GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes that occurred in and around Gillette yesterday, Nov. 16, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Breach of peace, Nov. 16, Hannum Road, CCSO
Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said that at about 3:03 p.m., deputies responded to a third-party report of a breach of peace. The reporting party told dispatch that tenants wanted it reported to the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office that the machine shop to the north of the subdivision was playing loud music. The deputy who responded could hear work-related noises and music, but the music was not too loud. No citations were issued.
Drugs, Nov. 16, Ptarmigan Avenue, GPD
Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said police responded at 8:25 a.m. to Ptarmigan Avenue following a report of a strong odor of marijuana and loud music. They contacted a 42-year-old man at the door and noted a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the residence. The man told officers he was burning sage and allowed the officers to enter the home, where they found a 33-year-old man. Both men were on probation and consented to a search. Officers found empty bottles, unopened alcohol containers, about 3.5 grams of marijuana and eight-tenths of a gram of meth. Each man was arrested for probation violation and possession of a controlled substance, for marijuana and meth.
Tobacco violation, Nov. 16, 7th Street, GPD
At 12:22 p.m., a 14-year-old boy at Twin Spruce Junior High was found to be in possession of a pack of Eagle 20’s, Wasson said. Officers learned that the boy had received the cigarettes from a 14-year-old girl. Both were cited for tobacco.
Credit card fraud, Nov. 16, 5th Street, GPD
Wasson said that a 59-year-old woman reported at 1:09 p.m. that a total of $398 had been fraudulently withdrawn from her bank account via Venmo. There were two transactions of $199, which occurred on Nov. 1 and Nov. 3. Police are investigating.
DUI, Nov. 16, Lunar Avenue and Hunters Drive, GPD
According to Wasson, officers at 1:44 p.m. attempted to stop a 2017 Ram truck for speeding 78 mph in a 45 mph speed zone on East Boxelder Road. The suspect accelerated and was failing to maintain a single lane of travel. At one point, it left the roadway and went onto the shoulder of the road. Officers were finally able to gain the attention of the driver, a 20-year-old man. The vehicle stopped at Hunters Drive and Lunar Avenue. Officers could smell a strong odor of alcohol upon their contact with the man, who was displaying symptoms of intoxication. He admitted to drinking prior to driving and performed standardized field sobriety tests. He was arrested for driving under the influence and was cited for speeding, no proof of insurance, failing to maintain a single lane of travel and driving under suspension.
Destruction of property, Nov. 16, Gillette, GPD
Police responded to an address in Gillette at 9:43 p.m. following a 911 hang-up. A 37-year-old man reported upon their arrival that his girlfriend, 29, had bruises on her legs and he felt that they needed to be investigated. The two were in an argument regarding the bruises and how she denied knowing how they had occurred. During the argument, the man broke her iPhone 14, valued at $750. The man was cited for destruction of property. The woman had a warrant out of the city for failing to pay an original charge of no insurance and improper lookout. Officers arrested her on the warrant. It appears the disturbance was verbal.
Assault, Nov. 17, Cimarron Drive, GPD
A 25-year-old man told police at 3:22 a.m. Nov. 17 that he was thrown into a wall by another 25-year-old man and struck in the face by a 24-year-old man on Cimarron Drive, Wasson said. Each man was highly intoxicated and they had a verbal argument.The 24-year-old man left before officers’ arrival. The victim did not want to pursue charges because the three individuals were friends, but he asked that the other 25-year-old man be required to leave the residence for the night. The 25-year-old who was asked to leave found someone sober to drive him home.
