GILLETTE, Wyo. — A man crashed a vehicle into Donkey Creek in the early morning hours of Nov. 12, a Gillette police official said this morning.
At 2:11 a.m. Nov. 12, police responded to a single-vehicle accident at Butler Spaeth and Lakeway after a 33-year-old man, the owner of the vehicle, reported a 29-year-old man crashed a 2012 Dodge Ram into the creek, according to Gillette Police Capt. Jason Marcus. Police determined that the 29-year-old man was eastbound on Lakeway and continued through a stop sign into the creek.
Upon contact, officers found that the 29-year-old appeared to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, Marcus said. Signs of impairment included slurred speech and extremely poor balance. The man admitted to consuming 20 beers about an hour before the accident. Based on his performance on standard field sobriety tests, he was arrested for driving under the influence. He refused to take a breath test. A blood warrant was sought, granted and executed.
The spot where the vehicle crashed is pretty deep, and the vehicle had to be towed, Marcus said.
The 29-year-old initially told officers he was driving but later denied it, and the 33-year-old reported that the 29-year-old was driving it, according to Marcus. The report did not indicate whether the 33-year-old was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
This is not the first time somebody has crashed into the creek, Marcus said.
