C17 Crime Clips for Tuesday, Nov. 7

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes that occurred in and around Gillette yesterday, Nov. 6, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Shoplifting, Nov. 6, South Douglas Highway, GPD

A 60-year-old man was cited for shoplifting and was given a trespass notice after he reportedly took beef jerky and a pair of gloves from a fueling station at South Douglas Highway and 2nd Street, Wasson said. The man initially left the store on a bicycle but was located and identified by officers. He denied taking anything, but officers were able to cite the man after surveillance footage showed him taking the items.

Drugs, Nov. 6, South Burma Avenue, CCSO

Deputies arrested a 57-year-old man for possessing meth after he was stopped for an equipment violation while driving a blue Ford F-350 on South Burma Avenue, Sheriff Scott Matheny said. The man reportedly had an expired driver’s license, no insurance and expired registration. During the stop, a drug dog was deployed around the vehicle and indicated there were drugs inside. A subsequent search yielded a testable amount of meth. The man was also charged with driving with a broken windshield, no insurance and driving without a license.

Drugs, Nov. 6, Interstate 90, CCSO

A 37-year-old man stopped for speeding 100 mph in a 75 mph zone was taken into custody after deputies found 1.26 grams of marijuana in his vehicle, Matheny said. The man was operating a black Honda Accord near mile marker 129. He was charged with speeding and drug possession.

Assault, Nov. 6, Cyprus Circle, GPD

Officers responded to Cyprus Circle around 6:43 p.m. to investigate a reported assault, Wasson said. A 39-year-old man reportedly struck a 49-year-old man in the face. The older man reportedly showed up at the 39-year-old’s residence to talk. While there, he began to intimidate the 39-year-old’s 10-year-old daughter and challenged the younger man to fight. As they walked toward the street, the older man attempted to hit the 39-year-old, who in turn struck him. The 49-year-old sustained a laceration under his eye and refused medical treatment.

DWUI, Nov. 6, East Boxelder Road, GPD

While investigating a possible domestic involving a 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, officers reportedly found that the man had crashed a 2006 Jeep while intoxicated around 11:41 p.m., Wasson said. The man reportedly struck an unknown vehicle, possibly a silver Chevrolet. He performed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody based on his performance. The crash investigation is currently ongoing.
