GILLETTE, Wyo. — Campbell County sheriff’s deputies are investigating after they responded on Nov. 5 to a report in Wright that a woman was assaulted in an alley by an unknown male stranger, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said this morning.

Reynolds said he does not believe there is a threat to the general public and investigation has indicated there were several “factors, inconsistencies and improbabilities.”

Deputies were dispatched at 7:04 p.m. Nov. 5 to Sweetwater Circle in Wright following a report that a woman, 32, who was in distress and only wearing jeans, knocked on a resident’s door. The woman reportedly said she had been assaulted by an unidentified male stranger while walking on a path in Wright that runs parallel to Highway 387. The woman was on her way from Big D to the Wright fire station to meet a traveling companion. While walking on the path, she was pulled by a male into the alley and physically assaulted. She ran to the residence and asked for medical assistance.

The woman had injuries to both eyes, according to Reynolds. Her eyes were swollen shut, and there was a laceration on her left eye. The woman had abrasions and scratches on her back. There were also injuries that were in various states of healing. The woman was transported by ambulance to the hospital.
