GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Gillette Elks will hold a youth hoop shoot contest Nov. 20 at Prairie Wind Elementary, 200 Overdale Drive, Gillette.
Event registration starts at 4:30 p.m. and the competition begins at 5 p.m. Boys and girls will compete separately, in three divisions organized by age: 8–9, 10–11, and 12–13. The competition is free.
Elks lodges across the U.S. have held the National Elks Foundation Free Throw hoop shoot competitions for 50 years, according to a flier. More details on the competition are on the flier below:
Jarek Fiedor of Gillette was the first Gillette boy to make it to nationals, which he did last year. He won the boys 10–11-year-old age group at the 2022–23 Regional Hoop Shoot contest in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on March 18. He and fellow Gillette boy Payton Sorensen competed in the state championship in Casper in February. There have been three Wyoming children who have won nationals.
