GILLETTE, Wyo. — Gillette police are investigating after a Gillette store was reportedly scammed out of more than $7,000, Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said this morning.
He said that a 31-year-old woman reported at 9:34 p.m. Oct. 27 that her boyfriend received a phone call from an unknown man who claimed to represent Intermex Wire Transfer, an international service that she uses for her business, which is El Gallo Market. The man asked the woman’s boyfriend to provide information about the business computer, allowing the unknown man to control the computer. The boyfriend complied. Someone accessed the Intermex account and transferred $7,270 to an account in Mexico.
El Gallo Market is located at 2007 South Douglas Highway, Gillette. The woman’s boyfriend is 33.
