GILLETTE, Wyo. — People in the mood for a good scare can check out Knight of Gore’s haunted house at 7 tonight and on other dates this month.
Tandie Losey, who is hosting the event at her house for the first time, said the event begins in her garage, where people carry a lantern to a door that will remind some of this year’s “Insidious” movie. They then open the door, without the lantern’s comfort, into a further frightening experience that involves Losey’s basement, backyard and shed, which are at 209 E. Tonk St., Gillette.
Losey said the event gives youths ages 11–14 a chance to use their imagination to be spooky characters and step outside the norm.
“And they are good!” she said.
The event opened last weekend, and the children had so much fun that they added more dates for the haunted house performance, according to Losey. The scenes and characters change, providing a new experience every week.
Losey said that last weekend, the children took photos with customers after the haunt because the customers loved it so much.
“[The customers] couldn’t believe that all the actors were so young,” Losey said. “It built morale, for sure.”
She said it has been wonderful to see that the children not only want to be part of the haunted house experience but they also have the desire to set up the haunted house, help each other put on costume makeup and be the best performers they can be through providing feedback.
Event organizers are pledging donations to Blessings in a Backpack, as they have in the past, she said. They also want to donate to Y.E.S. House. Blessings in a Backpack provides weekend meals to students in need. Y.E.S. House is a private, nonprofit agency in Gillette that provides services such as residential treatment and counseling to people ages 5–24 and their families.
Mannings, Energy Lanes, CLS, Rusty Bell, Wyoming Machinery (CAT), Car-Knack and Will Collier of Team Properties have made donations for the event, which support the purchase of face paint and costumes. Customers can receive candy and win prizes, like gift cards to The Axe House. Collier plans to be a guest actor, too.
Tickets are $5 for children under 13 and $10 for anyone older. The remaining dates are Oct. 18–21 and Oct. 27–31. The event runs from 7 to 11 p.m.
