GILLETTE, Wyo. — Effective today, Campbell County Fire Chief Jeff Bender has lifted burn restrictions.
Bender said in the Campbell County commissioners’ meeting this morning that while conditions have improved to the point that he can lift the restrictions, he wants residents to continue to be careful. There is still dry fuel, and about 10 days ago, conditions changed from relatively wet to red flag in just two days.
“I don’t think we can throw caution to the wind,” he said.
The Bureau of Land Management said Sept. 29 that it is lifting fire restrictions in Campbell County on the lands it administers. The bureau had previously outlawed actions like building or maintaining a fire outside agency-provided fire grates due to dry conditions and high fire danger.
