GILLETTE, Wyo. — A Campbell County resident and the Powder River Energy Foundation are partnering on a scholarship program for students who are hard workers.

The foundation said in a news release that it will manage the Rising Opportunity Student Scholarship, or ROSS, program with a fund that Perry Ross established. Ross retired from business with a living trust. He started the educational scholarship program to help others succeed in life.

The program is open to any student who is going to classes to retool and begin a new career, the release said. The foundation will award up to four $2,000 scholarships for students entering tuition-based training, certification and degree programs in 2024.

According to the foundation’s scholarships website, candidates who live in Campbell, Crook, Johnson, Sheridan or Weston counties and are solid students and hard workers are preferred. Applicants must complete a short essay on career aspirations and educational objectives and describe their needs and challenges in seeking higher education. They must submit reference letters.

“Perry believes hard work and contribution to community are important characteristics and candidates demonstrating these traits will have priority status in the scholarship selection process,” PRECorp Foundation Board President John Flocchini said in the release.
