Sun, warmth to continue ahead of end of summer showers

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Dry, warm and sunny conditions remain in the forecast for Gillette, but wetter weather is ahead.

The National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, has forecast a high of 75 today under mostly sunny skies. There will be a breeze of 10 mph from the west this afternoon with gusts reaching 17 mph. Tonight should see partly cloudy conditions and a low of 51.

Calm weather continues Wednesday with mostly sunny skies and a high near 76. There is a 20% chance for showers and thunderstorms from just before 9 p.m. through midnight, according to the forecast. The night sky will be mostly cloudy with a low near 49.

Thursday is likely to see more clouds as moisture from the Pacific Northwest pours into the region. The mercury is expected to climb to 74 ahead of evening thunderstorm chances that will help drive the low to around 49, according to the forecast.

Friday and Saturday are shaping up to be the best days for rainy weather. There’s a 70% chance for showers during the day Friday and Saturday with highs of 67 and 58, respectively. Overnight lows will be around 43 degrees, if the forecast holds up.

“Dry weather and near-average temperatures expected for early next week as upper ridge builds in behind departing upper low,” meteorologists wrote in the forecast discussion.
