GILLETTE, Wyo. — Campbell County Medical Group Kid Clinic has a new pediatrician, Campbell County Health announced today.

Dr. Leopoldo Cabrera brings a wealth of experience and passion for pediatric medicine to northeast Wyoming, the news release said.

Cabrera, who emigrated from the Philippines to the U.S. in the 1990s, said he wanted to join the clinic because Gillette stood out to him compared with other communities.

“Gillette’s a small community, and everyone was so friendly when I visited,” Cabrera said. “When I visited the hospital, I knew this would be the best place to practice medicine.”

Cabrera earned his medical degree at Far East University Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation and completed his pediatric residency at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, according to the release. Prior to moving to the U.S., Cabrera also gained experience in internal medicine and pulmonology.

As a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Cabrera is dedicated to the well-being of children and their families. He shared that the best thing about being a physician is helping the community.

“It is providing assistance to others, it is healing others, and that’s the most fulfilling thing in life,” he said.

Cabrera initially pursued becoming a priest before he decided to become a doctor, the release said. In the seminary, he developed a passion for basketball, and he now often plays the sport with his friends and his son. He cherishes spending quality time with his family. He also plays chess and piano.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Cabrera traveled annually to the Philippines to provide healthcare services.

“His dedication to serving others, commitment to family, and extensive experience aligns perfectly with the values upheld by Campbell County Medical Group Kid Clinic,” the release said.
