Elevated fire weather conditions expected on dry, breezy Monday

GILLETTE, Wyo. — With sunshine in the sky and a west wind of 7–10 mph, Gillette is in for a pleasant Monday.

The only hiccup will be that the forecast is ripe for elevated fire weather conditions, according to the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Expect a high of 81 today and wind gusts as high as 17 mph. Tonight will be mostly clear with a low near 51.

Cooler temperatures and a cloud or two are expected Tuesday. The forecast high is 74 under mostly sunny skies. There will be a continued 7–10 mph breeze that will last into the evening as the low falls to around 49 under partly cloudy skies.

Wednesday will start off much the same with a forecast high of 75 under mostly sunny skies. Winds will pick up from the southwest and turn to come from the east as nightfall arrives. There’s an overnight 30% chance for rain as the low falls to around 50.

Rain will remain in the forecast for the rest of the week. Thursday will see a high near 73 and a 20% chance for afternoon showers. That will persist overnight and into Friday. Thursday’s forecast low is 47 degrees while Friday’s high will return to 63. Saturday will be even cooler at 57 with continued rain chances.
