Mike Cole named city administrator

City Administrator Mike Cole was appointed to his position during a special meeting on Friday, Sept. 15 (City of Gillette)

GILLETTE, Wyo. — On Friday, the Gillette City Council chose Mike Cole to serve as permanent city administrator, according to an announcement from the City of Gillette.

The decision was made during a special meeting on Sept. 15 during which Cole — long-time city utilities director and interim city administrator — was chosen over two other applicants, per the city.

Cole has served as interim city administrator since earlier this year, when the position was left vacant by the departure of Hyun Kim, who resigned from his previous position to take another in Tacoma, Washington, the city says.

According to a Sept. 15 release, Cole has served as utilities director since 2017, where he oversaw all aspects of the city’s water, sewer, fiber-optic, and electric utility divisions.

Cole holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Wyoming and is a registered professional engineer. He brings nearly three decades of experience in public and private engineering and management.
