GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes that occurred in and around Gillette yesterday, Sept. 14, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Traffic violation, Sept. 14, Edwards Street, GPD
Officers were dispatched to Dalbey Memorial Park for a report of a vehicle spinning cookies in the parking lot around 9:07 a.m., Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. A 16-year-old boy driving a Ford Ranger was contacted and admitted to driving erratically. He was cited for exhibition of speed and acceleration.
Animal problem, Sept. 14, Interstate 90, CCSO
Deputies responded to mile marker 128 on Interstate 90 around 1:08 p.m. after a resident called to report a dead dog, Sheriff Scott Matheny said. The dog was a black and white Boston Terrier mix that didn’t have a microchip or identification tags. Deputies removed the dog from the area.
Property destruction, Sept. 14, Church Avenue, GPD
A 53-year-old woman on Church Avenue called the police at 6:02 p.m. to report someone allegedly drove through her backyard, striking a shed and a fence, Wasson said. At the time of the report, an estimate of the damage had not been completed.
Trespassing, Sept. 14, South Douglas Highway, GPD
Officers issued a trespassing notice to a 24-year-old woman at the request of staff at a beauty store on South Douglas Highway around 7:36 p.m., Wasson said. The woman reportedly tried to pay $200 for merchandise valued at $1,700 and yelled at customers. Staff recovered the property and returned the woman’s $200.
Burglary, Sept. 15, Rodgers Drive, GPD
A 33-year-old man at a hotel on Rodgers Drive called the police at 4:37 a.m. to report seeing a man in a mask who was attempting to drill out the lock on a dryer, Wasson said. The man was approximately 6 feet tall and looked to weigh 170 pounds. He was dressed all in black and carried a black bag. The man exited out of the hotel laundry room and fled from the scene before officers arrived. The investigation is ongoing.
Drugs, Sept. 15, Rodgers Drive, GPD
Officers cited a 54-year-old woman for possessing a gram of suspected marijuana and THC cookies after they found them concealed beneath a black coat while investigating a burglary at a hotel around 5:45 a.m., Wasson said. Believing it to belong to the burglary suspect, officers went through the items and found the illicit substances. The woman, a hotel employee, admitted that the marijuana and cookies belonged to her.
