CASPER, Wyo. — A 73-year-old man was charged in Carbon County Circuit Court last week after a violent incident that required one victim to be transported for advanced trauma care.

Melvin Leon Bagley was charged Wednesday, Sept. 6, with two counts of second-degree attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and reckless driving, according to a release Monday by the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office.

Bagley remains in county jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond.

Around 12:41 p.m. on Sept. 3, the Wyoming Highway Patrol responded to the area of milepost 22 on US 287 for a complaint of a man with a gun, the sheriff’s office said.

The caller advised 911 dispatch that a relative shot her and another family member. The victims fled toward Rawlins, followed by the assailant in a separate vehicle.

“The caller reported the assailant rammed the back of their vehicle and continued shooting at them,” the release said.

Troopers stationed in Rawlins intercepted the vehicles near milepost 14. Both vehicles stopped and the suspect surrendered to troopers without further incident.

Emergency medical transported the victims to Carbon County Memorial Hospital.

“The seriousness of the second victim’s injuries required they be further transported to a trauma center,” the release said.
