GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes that occurred in and around Gillette yesterday, Sept. 7, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Theft, Sept. 7, South Douglas Highway, GPD
Officers responded to a parking lot on South Douglas Highway after a 45-year-old woman called to report someone stole her purse out of a cart around 1:25 p.m., Gillette Police Cpl. Dan Stroup said. The woman said she left her purse in a cart, left, realized she was missing it and returned to pick it up but couldn’t find it. Surveillance produced a suspect, a 35-year-old woman, who was contacted by officers. The purse was recovered and the 35-year-old woman was cited for theft.
Crash, Sept. 7, Shoshone Avenue, GPD
A 58-year-old woman was cited for failing to maintain a proper lookout after she reportedly crashed a lawnmower into a light pole around 2:22 p.m., Stroup said. The crash resulted in over $1,000 in damages and no reported injuries.
Theft, Sept. 7, Express Drive, GPD
Officers responded to Express Drive at 6:34 p.m. after a 48-year-old woman called to report her son’s bicycle had been stolen, Stroup said. Officers canvased the area and found a 17-year-old boy riding the stolen bicycle. He promised to return the bicycle and officers followed him back to the woman’s address. The boy then ditched the bicycle and fled on foot. Officers located him in a nearby apartment and cited him for petty larceny.
DWUI, Sept. 7, South Garner Lake Road, GPD
A 64-year-old woman was arrested for impaired driving after she was reported for nearly hitting traffic cones on South Garner Lake Road around 6:52 p.m., Stroup said. The woman was operating a 2013 Subaru and admitted to consuming half a pint of vodka prior to driving. She performed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody for her fourth DWUI offense, a felony.
Drugs, Sept. 7, South Douglas Highway, CCSO
A 42-year-old man was arrested for felony drug possession on South Douglas Highway after deputies stopped him for failing to signal in a 2002 Chrysler Voyager, Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Dan Maul said. The man reportedly had a suspended license and consented to a search. Deputies located a container of marijuana and another with meth on the man and took him into custody. He was also cited with driving under suspension.
Suspicious activity, Sept. 8, Independence Drive, GPD
Officers arrested a 27-year-old man for drug use and criminal entry after he was reported for trying to enter a 31-year-old woman’s residence in search of medical care around 12:31 a.m., Stroup said. The man admitted to officers that he used marijuana and was paranoid. He was transported to Campbell County Health for evaluation and was taken into custody after being medically released.
