GILLETTE, Wyo. — This afternoon, Uniquely Perfect Performing Troop performed a series of nearly 40 songs at the CAM-PLEX Heritage Center in Gillette.

Roughly 40 people in the group sang and danced to songs in the “Drifting Through the Decades” program. The musical numbers ranged from “Ghostbusters” to “La Bamba.” They also called veterans onto the stage for a tribute to the troops.

Director Tina Theunissen said she began the group in 1982 through her work at the Northeast Wyoming Board of Cooperative Educational Services. The group spun off from BOCES about 10 years ago and opened to the whole community. Performers began practicing in January.

“These kids just work so hard,” she said.

Theunissen said the event is the highlight of her year. She hopes the performance will someday fully pack the Heritage Center theater. About half of the seats on the main floor of the theater were filled.

The event announcement CAM-PLEX posted said the group was formerly known as Kids in Motion.

“This talented troop is comprised of individuals with disabilities from across the city, showcasing their remarkable abilities and passion for performing,” the announcement said.
