NHSFR: Gillette, Wyoming competitors pushing strong halfway through competition

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Wyoming and local competitors continued to hold their own on the world stage during the fifth and sixth rodeo performances for the 2023 National High School Finals Rodeo at CAM-PLEX. 

Performance 5

Gillette’s Grady Edwards held on tight during the fifth rodeo performance for Bareback Riding, claiming eighth place with a score of 50 points, while Rozet’s Shayda Lesmesiter took fifth in Pole Bending with a time of 20.687 seconds, according to the unofficial NHSFR results. 

Also from Gillette, RaeLee Caldwell placed 12th in Breakaway Roping with a time of 3.5 seconds while TeAnna Jolovich placed eighth in Girls Cutting with a score of 138 points, the unofficial results say. 

Wyoming team Austin Pixley of Sundance and Keyton Haydon of Gillette took fifth place in Team Roping with a time of 8.38 seconds, per the unofficial results. 

Hadley Thompson of Yoder placed ninth with a time of 8.64 seconds for Goat Tying, while Jake Schlattmann out of Graybull took fifth in Saddle Bronc with a score of 64 points, according to the unofficial results. 

Performance 6

Hayden returned during the sixth rodeo performance to place 12th in Tie-Down Roping with her time of 13.52 seconds, while Buffalo’s Adam Belus took eighth in Boys Cutting with a score of 135 points, per the unofficial results. 

Thompson rode hard during the sixth performance to claim 15th place with a time of 18.187 seconds, while Cannon Campbell of Shoshoni took 12th place in Steer Wrestling with a tie of 14.62 seconds.
