Fake police officer targeting Gillette residents in phone scam

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Authorities are warning residents of a local phone scam in which a suspect is claiming to be a Gillette police officer, according to the City of Gillette.

Gillette police received several reports from residents on June 22 inquiring about a call from Sgt. Frank Conroy, or Connelly, who says he is with the Gillette Police Department, according to the city.

The individual tells the recipient that they have missed court and a warrant has been issued for their arrest, the city says.

“There is no one by that name at the City of Gillette and the Police Department will never request a payment over the phone,” the city says. “If you receive a suspicious call from someone identifying themselves as local law enforcement, please hang up and call the Police Department for confirmation at (307) 682-5155.”
