GILLETTE, Wyo. — A 40-year-old man was life-flighted to South Dakota and a 17-year-old boy was hospitalized following a head-on collision on Force Road on Wednesday, according to the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred around 10:24 p.m. on June 7 when the 40-year-old man, operating a silver 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser, crossed the center line while traversing a hill on Force Road. He collided head-on at 50 mph with a 2004 GMC Sierra operated by the 17-year-old boy, Sheriff’s Office Paul Pownall said.

Both drivers were extricated from their vehicles by the Campbell County Fire Department and transported to the hospital by emergency medical services, Pownall said, adding that the crash resulted in over $1,000 in damages.

The boy sustained two broken ankles; the man’s injuries were not specified in the report provided to reporters on June 8 by Pownall, though he said the man’s injuries were severe enough for him to be life-flighted to Rapid City, South Dakota.

According to Pownall, a state crash report is pending and the incident remains an active investigation.
