GILLETTE, Wyo. — The sun will come out, and it’s here to stay until afternoon thunderstorm clouds cover it up.

This week’s forecast from the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, looks the same each day from today through Friday, with the main difference being increased storm chances every day.

Gillette is starting Tuesday off at 56 degrees under sunny skies. The high will top out around 82 degrees today, Wednesday and Thursday before afternoon storms kick up and cool things down. Today’s chance for a thunderstorm is 20%, with the greatest chance occurring before 9 p.m.

Wednesday will largely repeat today with another 20% chance for afternoon thunderstorms, although the window will be slightly larger, spanning noon to midnight. A similar atmospheric setup will be in place for Thursday, but the chance for storms rises to 40% after noon and drops to around 30% before midnight, the forecast says.

Overnight lows today through Friday will be around 55 degrees.

Friday will be somewhat cooler at 80 degrees, but it will pack the greatest chance for storms at 70%. That will carry through the night, leading to morning showers on Saturday, if the forecast holds up.

More on the forecast is available from the National Weather Service in Rapid City.
