GILLETTE, Wyo. — A Gillette man died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday afternoon, a local police official said on June 6.

The man — identified as a 68-year-old —was found in a field near East Sinclair Street and South Garner Lake Road after a resident called to report that a man was lying on the ground, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said.

He was lying next to a 2019 Subaru and a large amount of blood; officers attempted lifesaving measures but the man was ultimately pronounced deceased, Wasson said.

Officers found a firearm underneath the man, Wasson continued, adding that it is believed the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The investigation is currently ongoing, Wasson said.
