C17 Crime Clips for Monday, June 5

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a brief summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette this past weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.

DWUI, June 3, Douglas Highway, CCSO

Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said that at 10 p.m., deputies stopped a white 2021 Ford E-series work van that was traveling the wrong way on Highway 59 near Lakeway Road. The driver, a 42-year-old man, had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emitting from his facial region and continually stated that he was “almost home.” The man performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests and was transported to the detention center, where he agreed to a breath test. He blew a 0.286 BAC. The man was issued citations for DWUI and control to access road, according to the arrest log. Reynolds said the man was released on zeroes and has no prior convictions for DWUIs.

Fleeing/Eluding, June 4, Warlow Drive, CCSO

Reynolds said a 24-year-old man was arrested and charged with eluding, reckless driving and driving under suspension at 10:12 p.m. Deputies had attempted to stop him as he was westbound on a 2007 Harley-Davidson going 73 mph in a 35 mph zone on East Boxelder Road near Butler Spaeth Road. The man fled north on Highway 59, where deputies lost him and discontinued the pursuit. Later, a deputy spotted him on Warlow Drive near Hanna Road. Deputies tracked him going 107 mph in a 40 mph zone. Near Warlow and Commercial drives, the man stopped, got off his motorcycle and put his hands up. He said he didn’t know why he eluded deputies and asked to be allowed to call his wife. Deputies took him into custody.

Warrant arrest, June 2, Gurley Avenue, GPD

Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said that at the YES House at 4:34 p.m., officers arrested a 14-year-old girl who had an active warrant out of Laramie County on an original charge of destruction of property.

REDDI, June 3, Skyline Drive, GPD

A 21-year-old man was arrested at 3:09 a.m. for DUI following a traffic stop, after it was reported that he nearly struck a pole and then parked his vehicle, a 2019 Dodge, in the middle of Skyline Drive, Wasson said. Police found that he was obviously intoxicated. The man unsuccessfully performed a standardized field sobriety test. Police found an open alcoholic beverage in the vehicle and warned him about that.

Shoplifting, K-9 Narcotics, June 3, Lakeway Road, GPD

A 35-year-old woman reported at 11:28 a.m. that an unknown woman, estimated to be in her 20s, shoplifted several items from Energy Station and also filled an iced coffee before entering the restroom, Wasson said. After she exited the restroom, staff questioned her about the coffee. She paid for it. She slipped out of the door and left in a 2008 Ford Suzuki. Initial attempts to find the vehicle were unsuccessful. The 2008 Suzuki was later found, and stopped in reference to the shoplifting, near Warlow Drive and Pumphouse Lane. A 25-year-old woman and a 30-year-old woman were found inside. A K-9 search indicated. Officers conducted a search and found five and a half fentanyl pills and two LSD tablets. Both occupants were arrested and transported to detention. The 25-year-old was charged with driving while under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. The 30-year-old was charged with possession of a controlled substance. The report for media didn’t indicate which had shoplifted.

Littering, June 3, EZ Street, GPD

Wasson said police responded at 11:41 a.m. to EZ Street after a 42-year-old man reported that two bags full of trash had been emptied into the backyard of a building. There are no known suspects.

Trespassing, June 4, Highway 14-16, GPD

A 34-year-old woman reported at 6:05 p.m. that a 40-year-old man and a 51-year-old man were making unwanted comments to a 17-year-old server, Wasson said. The two men denied having done that. The employee requested that the men be trespassed.

Battery, June 4, Windmill Drive, GPD

Wasson said that a 61-year-old man reported at 8:23 p.m. that a 63-year-old man confronted him, advancing on him in a threatening way, and swung a lead rope at him, striking him with a metal snap, on Windmill Drive at CAM-PLEX. The 63-year-old said that the 61-year-old was the aggressor in the altercation and that he had sustained a bruise to his back. Both parties requested that neither be charged.
