Mini Cooper gets away following May 31 pursuit

GILLETTE, Wyo. — The driver of a black and yellow Mini Cooper evaded capture early this morning following a brief pursuit that started on East 9th Street near Elon Avenue, local law enforcement agencies said Wednesday.

The pursuit started after Gillette police attempted to stop the Mini Cooper for speeding around 12:52 a.m. on May 31, according to Gillette Police Capt. Kelly Alger.

When officers flipped around to conduct the stop, the suspect accelerated away and officers deactivated their emergency overhead lights when it became apparent the suspect intended to elude them.

A nearby Campbell County Sheriff’s deputy overheard police department radio traffic, located the Mini Cooper, and initiated a pursuit, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said.

The vehicle fled from the deputy northbound on South Douglas Highway and then westbound on 2nd Street before the deputy lost sight of it on Warlow Drive, Reynolds said.

Deputies patrolled the area for approximately 30 minutes but were not able to find the vehicle or the driver, per Reynolds.
