Tonight’s school board agenda features military youth leadership program

Campbell County Veterans Council Executive Board Member Denton Knapp will provide information regarding JROTC.

GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Campbell County School District Board of Trustees will meet April 11 to discuss the appeals process and the establishment of Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, or JROTC, programs.

The appeals process discussion will take place at the board’s 5 p.m. dinner meeting in the Rocky Point Room at the Educational Services Center, 1000 W. 8th St., Gillette.

The JROTC is a leadership and citizenship program for high school students, according to the Department of Defense. It promotes graduation from high school and teaches youths self-discipline and self-confidence skills. Instructors are retired military officers and enlisted personnel.

The regular meeting, which includes discussion and information regarding Denton Knapp’s proposal for the district to have JROTC programs, will begin at 6 p.m. in the Educational Services Center’s board room.
