Deputy chief: Gillette man arrested after pointing handgun at man

GILLETTE, Wyo. — A Gillette man was arrested for aggravated assault May 14 after he reportedly pointed a black semiautomatic handgun at a man, Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said this morning.

Police responded at 4:49 a.m. May 14 to a 22-year-old man’s residence after the man reported that a 23-year-old man came to the home, approached him on his porch and pointed the handgun at him, Wasson said.

Officers contacted the 23-year-old man, Gavin Durfee, at his residence in Georgia Circle, Wasson said. The man said he drove to the 22-year-old’s residence and pointed the gun at him, which he said was a toy revolver. The man showed officers his firearms, including a black 9 mm handgun that matched the description given by the victim and a witness. Officers seized the handgun.

Wasson said Durfee was apparently upset about the 22-year-old man sending messages to Durfee’s wife.
