GILLETTE, Wyo. — Iowa-based convenience store chain Kum & Go has been purchased by the parent company that operates Maverik.
According to a joint release issued on April 21, Maverik’s parent company, FJ Management, announced it would purchase the Kum & Go family-owned convenience store chain from the Krause Group. Maverik also acquired Solar Transport from the Krause Group. Solar Transport is described as a tank truck carrier and logistic provider.
The purchase of Kum & Go’s roughly 400 locations across 13 states brings the company a combined footprint of more than 800 stores across 20 states, the release said.
The amount of the purchase was not disclosed.
Requests by Oil City News for comment on Wednesday from Maverik and Kum & Go spokespeople were not returned.
Gillette has three Kum & Go locations, including two on Highway 14-16 and one on Skyline Drive.
The companies have not released any information on the future of the Kum & Go brand.
According to the Des Moines Register, Maverik’s parent, FJ Management, is a private company that owns oil refineries, banks and insurance businesses, along with convenience stores. The company also co-owns the Pilot Flying J truck stop chain that is familiar to many Wyoming drivers. Berkshire Hathaway and Pilot Corp. are the chain’s other partners.
